Lords of Bukhara. AR Drachm, Bukhara, temp. Al-Mahdi (158-169 H / 775-785 AD). Obv. Crown bust to right; behind, 'al-Mahdi' in Kufic; before, 'Lord of Bukhara' in Sogdian. Rev. Sasanian fire altar, which is the outline of the divine head facing right, flanked by two attending priests (mabedh) standing facing each other.
