Arab-byzantine, Umayyad Caliphate, pre-reform coinage. AE Fals, Tiberias mint, 41-77 H / 661-697 AD. D/ Heraclius, flanked by Heraclius Constantine and Heraclonas, facing. R/ Large M. Walker 43. 4.92 g. 23 mm. Red desert patina. VF. Byzantine authority collapsed in the face of repeated assaults on the borders of Syria-Palestine in the late 6th-early 7th century CE. As a result of this power vacuum, the cities of the region began to strike their first autonomous civic coinage in almost 400 years.
