Portrait of Queen Jadwiga (also known as Hedwig), the patron saint of Poland. She was the daughter of Louis I the Great of Hungary and Poland and inherited the Polish Kingdom after his death. She was Poland's first queen regnant (1384-1399). Jadwiga was canonised by the Catholic Church in 1997.
