Lot 339:
C. Renius. AR Denarius, 138 BC. Obv. Helmeted head of Roma right; behind, X. Rev. Juno in biga of goats right; below, C·RENI; in exergue, ROMA. Cr. 231/1; B. (Renia) 1. 3.83 g. 16.00 mm. Brilliant example with bright grounds. About EF. The scene on the reverse depicts Juno Caprotina, a divinity worshipped in the Campus Martius from the early Republican age but whose cult would have been 'imported' to Rome from Latium Vetus, in particular from Lanuvium, where there was a very old and important temple of hers. This fact suggests that the Gens Rennia (or Renia) may have originally come from this city.
