Lot 1069:
Malta. AE Three (3) Tesserae, Autumn Summer and Spring, Malta or Faenza mint. The attribution of this issue related to the seasons and the St. John's order remains very debated. Many authors have attributed the coin to the island of Malta because of the presence of the St. John' head on obverse of this tessera. Many bibliographies have recently attributed the tessera to the small Emilian's town of Faenza since a small group of these tesserae have been found in a public excavation around the Faenza's hospital. The Opera Pia of the Decollation of St John was indeed active in the town in the XVI century.
