C. Censorinus. AR Denarius, 88 BC. Obv. Jugate heads of Numa Pompilius and Ancus Marcius right. Rev. Desultor right, wearing conical cap and holding whip. Cr. 346/1b. 3.97 g. 17.00 mm. Lightly toned. VF/About VF. A desultor is a skilled horseman who can leap from one horse to the other while riding. Originally it was a battle skill but later it became a popular entertainment in the Roman circus.
