Sicily. Akragas. AE 20.5 mm, c. 275-240 BC. Obv. Laureate head of Apollo right; K behind neck. Rev. Two eagles standing right on dead hare, one raising its head, the other tearing at hare; Λ above eagles' wings. HGC 2 -; cf. 159 (eagles left); CNS I 133; Buceti 203 (same dies). 3.46 g. 20.50 mm. RRRR. Of the greatest rarity, Buceti cites only two specimens known. Calciati says that this issue is the most rare of all the group Apollo/Eagle. All the specimens known (for Calciate are 4, one only reproduced by drawing by Salinas) seem to be derived from the same pair of dies. Areas of flat strike. VF.
